Make a Difference

Almost one year ago, the Institute of Gainesville hosted a forum on human trafficking at Santa Fe College. The institute is determined to advocate for this issue until the citizens of Alachua are aware of the crimes and sins of modern day slavery and sex trafficking.

On Jan. 11 the U.S. will observe the annual “Human Trafficking Awareness Day.” We encourage you to contact your church or civic group to observe this day and join with others in recognizing that we are all responsible for the continuation of human trafficking through our daily choices of produce, consumer goods and personal services.

We suggest you make your concerns known to the big box stores and grocery chains you shop and encourage the managers to stock products from nations certified to have open workshops, child labor laws and responsible corporate executives.

Do something proactive and make a difference.

Remzey Samarrai,

The Institute of Gainesville
